Abstract
The authors report a case of vertebral hemangioma causing compressive myelopathy that was treated by intraoperative vertebroplasty. A 48-year-old male patient was presented with complaint of insidious onset of paraparesis. Imaging studies revealed a mass lesion in the fifth thoracic vertebra compressing the spinal cord both anteriorly and posteriorly. Preoperative vertebral angiography and embolization were done. He underwent a laminectomy and partial resection of the involved vertebral body posterolaterally. The stability of the spinal column was secured by intraoperative vertebroplasty into the remnant vertebral body via the contralateral pedicle followed by posterior pedicle screw fixation. In this report, authors have tried to focus on the usefulness of the vertebroplasty as the alternative of the bone graft or bone cement dowel after partial corpectomy in the tumorous lesion involving vertebral body.
